Number of Troops: Union-35,000 Confederate-32,500 Casualties: Union-460 men killed, 1,124 wounded, and 1,312 captured or missing Confederate-lost 387 killed, 1,582 wounded, and 13 missing The winner at Bull Run was Confederates 1.)People from washington came and watched the battle from the sideline with civilians. 2.)The First battle of Bull Run saw in introdiction of the Rifled Musket and the Minne Ball invented by Claude Minne. 3.)The retreat became known as "The Great Skidaddle". 4.)The Confederates were the first to use railroad transport to get their troops to the battlefield. 5.)Neither side new the other was in the area.
-Seven days battles- June 25 to July 1, 1862 leaders: Union-George B. McClellan Confedrate-Robert E. -Antietam Creek- September 17, 1862 Leaders: Union-George B. McClellan Confedrate-Robert E. Lee Number of Troops: Union-75,500 Confederates-38,000 Casualties: Union-12,401 Confederates-10,316 The winner at Antietam Creek was the Union. 1.)The Battle of Antietam was the first major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Union soil. 2.)It was fought near Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Antietam Creek. 3.)Strategically the battle was won by the Union but tactically it ended in stalemate. 4.)In 1891 the site was dedicated by veterans to veterans and their family in memorial. 5.)McClellan was removed from his position as Union commander on November 5th of that year.
