.:Gulf of Tonkin Incident:. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident was two separate times involving naval forces of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the United States in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin that got the first large scale involvement of U.S. armed forces in Southeast Asia. On August 2, 1964, the destroyer USS Maddox engaged three North Vietnamese P-4 torpedo boats, resulting in damage to the three boats. Two days later the Maddox (having been joined by the destroyer USS Turner Joy reported a second incounter with North Vietnamese vessels. This second report was later claimed to be an error. The outcome of the incident was the passage by Congress of the Southeast Asia Resolution (known as the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution), which gave the President Lyndon B. Johnson the power to assist any Southeast Asian country whose government was considered to be jeopardized by communist aggression. I Think this Made people mad because they did not have any say so in this war starting. The president Did it him self without anybacking of the government or the people.
.:The Enclave Strategy:.
.:The Tet offensive:. all of the Vietcong attacked major cities and Missile launch sites in South Vietnam. This attack was an all out desperate rush against the U.S. forces. The attack failed. But althought it failed, it let the U.S. know that Vietcong could be anywhere at anytime The outcome was that the Vietcong lost and was pushed back out of are bases and cities. But it left a thought in the americans heads. I think it made the people of the united states want out of vietnam alot more because it showed that alot of people were dying for nothing.
.:The My Lai Massacre:. March 16, 1968, US Army troops murdered several hundred Vietnamese civilians at the villages of My Lai and My Khe during the Vietnam War. The victims were mostly elderly men, women and children all of them had nothing to do with the war. Many of them were also sexaully asualted to. The outcome of this was that hundreds of Civiclians in vietnam died for no reason and made the people of vietnam hate them even more. The people in the U.S went crazy calling them everything they could and that is what the poeple of the US hated the most, was what they did to the people in vietnam
.:Vietnamization and Nicon Doctrine:.
.:The Antiwar Movement:. When the war first started people were supportive because of the "Red Scare". But after a short time that dropped and people no longer supported the war and thought defending from comunism was pointless and did not want the war to continue so the people started to protest the war. The outcome was that the Goverment found out that it is all most impossible to win a long drawn out war with out the popular support. The people from the US started Hating everything vietnam and protested even the troops returning form the war. It Showed that with out the poeple support it was kinda hard to win a war.
